Echocardiography

An echocardiogram (also known as an ECHO) is a painless test that uses sound waves to show the beating heart. It is used to assess how effectively the heart’s chambers and valves are working, and to spot areas of weakness in the heart muscle.

Echocardiography also can detect possible blood clots and fluid buildup in the sac that surrounds the heart (the pericardium).
